Symwave’s 1394b Physical Layer Device (PHY) technology is a product of more than 100 years of combined experience in high performance analog-mixed signal semiconductor and system design. Since its inception in 2001, Symwave has been actively involved in the 1394 Trade Association and led the development of the S1600 (1.6Gbps) and S3200 (3.2Gbps) IC specifications. This systems level expertise, combined with a world-class semiconductor design team in Shenzhen, China, has resulted in a breakthrough product that raises the bar for 1394b PHY devices.
The FirePHY SW3080 is a 3-port 1394b S800 device that features an integrated oscillator and industry-leading clock jitter performance. Critical PHY parameters such as signal integrity, data throughput, ESD and EMI performance are all dramatically improved over existing products in the market. The FirePHY SW3080 has fewer pins, smaller package, fewer external components, and requires less PCB area, resulting in the industry’s most cost effective 1394b solution.
The SW3080 is targeted at 1394b (FireWire 800) HDD storage devices, hubs, repeaters and flash readers. It is also ideally suited for PC & Mac motherboards, OHCI add-in cards and ExpressCards.
The SW3085 is a variant of the FirePHY family targeted at applications using 1394 over CAT-5 cabling. The SW3085 is pin compatible with SW3080 and unique in its ability to operate at S200 speed (200Mbps) over 50m of CAT-5 cable without the need for an expensive external equalizer.
